Marcus & Millichap
Susan Bands is forging a new path for female leadership at Marcus & Millichap, having this past year been named sales manager of the firm’s flagship Manhattan office. As such, she is in- part responsible for growing the firm’s $42 Billion+ revenue stream and deploying 125 commercial real estate investment agents in the Manhattan office. Susan runs the training program, which is touted to be the best in the industry, and spearheads the hiring, coaching and mentoring of young agents to become successful entrepreneurs.
Susan joined Marcus & Millichap in 2004 as a shopping center sales specialist and quickly became a top agent with the firm. Partnering with her mother Sharon Bands, another female pioneer in the industry, the two became the only known mother-daughter investment brokerage team in New York, regularly beating out other teams to represent some of the nation’s largest REITS including Brixmor, Kimco & Phillips Edison.
Typically, the only woman in the boardroom, in what is otherwise a male dominated industry, Susan is particularly interested in the development and retention of women in real estate and is actively recruiting both new and experienced female agents in effort to tip the diversity scale.
Prior to joining the firm Ms. Bands worked with Forest City Ratner Companies as Director of Sales and Marketing in two of their New York hotels, and Grubb & Ellis as Associate Managing Director of Investment Sales.
Susan attended the Hewitt School for Girls in Manhattan, then received her bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University where she resided in her sorority, Delta Gamma. Susan lives in the Hamptons region of Long Island and spends quite a lot of her free time on boats or the beach with her two children. She is also an avid skiier and self-proclaimed “foodie”.
